Hop is a computer networking term that adverts to the number of devices, usually routers, (a portion of data) moves from source to its destination, instead of flowing directly over a single wire.

The Hop Count is the total number of HOPs that a packet of data travels and it gives an approximate measure of distance between two given hosts.
